Halloween in Vegas!

Sarah flew out and we are on our way to Vegas for Halloween! Things are going to be crazy! We are staying our first night at New York New York. I've heard this casino was a pretty nice stay so we figured we would try it out. We put on our costumes and hit the strip! Sarah was obsessed with the tall ass drinks all night so we went from casino to casino checking out all of the crazy costumes and grabbing a tall drink here and there!
Here is a pic of the strip. What a wonderful place this city is!

Annie Leibovitz.

Watch this movie! She is one of the most amazing photographers of the 21st century. I must also say very influential to me. I love how she captures life.

Magazine Work.

I believe when a piece of work is altered to reflect another persons intention, it is renewed and therefore becomes their own. My work with magazines is directly influenced by the original artist. To make this art, I take what the original artist has made and I add my own personal touch - it as at this point that it becomes my work. I search for the pieces that influence me the most and then embody what the artist was trying to accomplish and transform it through the channels of my mind. I let this process be as natural as possible, which makes the work inspirational and original.

Out Shooting as Always.

Railroad tracks have always intrigued me. The two parallel lines traveling side by side for what seems like endless miles. I love when you come across a set and get to look down both ways. Where could that way lead me? What about the other? You might just never know.

Living Room in the Backyard!

We shampooed our living room carpet yesterday. We put all of our furniture out in the yard and I think it was an improvement! Haha I wish we could've kept it out there for good! It was comfortable!

Surfing Pictures.

After shooting pictures yesterday I decided to go to Trestles this afternoon and shoot some more surfing pictures! I was trying to shoot some of my roommate Josh, but with 30 people waiting and catching waves at Lowers it became a little difficult telling people apart. The surf was just popping off! This was a cool shot I got. I have to figure out a way to get my hands on a longer lens and see what I can do!

Jack!!

This has got to be the cutest picture ever! He looks so happy to be sending his favorite uncle a picture of his favorite shirt! I can't wait to see him around Christmas! Its been too long!

T Street Sunset!

Its friday night! The surf was rockin and Matt came down so we headed off to T Street for a great sunset surf. I picked up a few nice pics for the first time I ever shot surfing. It has been a long time since I've been down to T Street and it was a great night to pick to come up! The sunset was amazing and it was clear enough to see Catalina in the background. Gorgeous.

The Tube.

I really enjoy this one. It just has such an interesting feel to it. Even being a square image the circle shape from the tube has transcended the boundaries of reality and carries on with the vignette on the film. With these unsuspected surprises is another reason I love to use my Holga and Diana cameras. You know what you are shooting, but you never know what you are going to get...

I Remember This One!

So I'm rolling down the road with my camera upside down on the end of my tripod.  A shutter release cable running back up it with me half hanging out the window. We passed stoplight after stoplight searching for bright lights and interesting shapes that might be apparent in the photograph after it is processed. I landed this one. About the only one after trying two rolls of film! This was awesome.

Old Negatives

Today I went through old work and found a few items lost in translation. Here are some self portrait work that I found. It was an assignment for when I was still in college. I thought this was pretty cool. Now I have to sort through all of the images and see what looks good! I found some gnarly ones! Wait and see!

New Work.

Here is another picture that I found. I love images you can find in back country. The subjects have endured time and the elements and still stand. They represent age, life, and hope. Hope that one day after a long life you can sit and enjoy your memories of a better day while relaxing in the sunshine.

Pocket Mouse Hill

This panoramic is more current. I shot it on friday. This spans about 225 degrees of view. From Camp Pendleton on the left, through San Clemente all the to Dana Point on the right. I've been on a panoramic kick lately. Hope you enjoy.

San Clemente and Talega

I found some images I took last year. I had meant to stitch them into this but never had the time. I'm always shooting and the time it takes to sort and work on them becomes more and more rare. Well I finally finished this panoramic. This was probably shot a year ago. I was up on a hill about a mile or two north of here. So this is looking south to San Clemente. Talega is on the left.

Sunset at State and San Clemente Pier.

It was an amazing sunset tonight. The only good things that comes out of fire season are the sunsets. With all of the smoke and soot in the air it just makes amazing colors and cloud formations. The picture of the pier I especially like, with the fog rolling over the tracks as the night air begins to cool off.

Introspection II

For all of those who enjoyed the first one.

Rooftop View

I took this last night just off the top of the rooftop patio. Its beautiful to go up there any time of the day. You have the ocean off in the distance and most nights you can see stars. I thought I would share some of that beauty.

Another Fire at Camp Pendleton Today.

So I'm driving home from the gym and come around the corner on the 5 just at San Juan and I see smoke. This is a 180 view from my roof top. The fire looks to be at the same place that the previous fire in Camp Pendleton was at. Its pretty far away from where I am at. Fires make for beautiful sunsets, I should get one for you soon!

Dodgers Game!

So I went to the Dodgers game tonight against Philly! It was awesome! What a great game to see for the first time in Dodger Stadium! They broke out of the gates with a 5 run lead in the first and kept ahead all game! As for the fans, they are crazy! Lets just say they don't look favor on you if you don't root for the home team! Haha! We had great seats too! 4 rows from the back we were sitting with Tom Arnold and a few other scattered celebs! Go Dodgers!

ONE YEAR TODAY!! CALIFORNIA!!!

It was one year today that I arrived in Cali! I'm excited for the next one! As for this picture I have a story for you! Matt and I were running around SC. We passed this surf board manufacturers warehouse and I wanted to stop in and take a look. Matt didn't think it was such a good idea at first. So I dragged him into the store and immediately he was looking around through some boards. He finds the perfect one. He can't keep his hands off the thing. He was so mesmerized by the board he bought it! This is a picture of him with his new board! He looks like five year old Johnny on christmas. Love it. Now I'm off to San Diego to celebrate with friends!

Hunter S Thompson Quote

This is up at the Ripcurl store down the block. Its a cool quote. He definitely had a different perspective on many things. I guess you just have to watch out, we are all in "bat country."

Fire is out!

The fire you saw in yesterdays blog is out! It burned about 1,000 acres before they contained it.
As my residency here in sunny CA rounds one year, I've been thinking about some of my experiences in the past year. There have been many good times. It is hard to not enjoy yourself out here, everything is so beautiful and full of life. There has been a few bad times as well. There has to be a balance in life. Although the good definitely out weighs the bad... I can only look to the future and imagine how bright it will be with the flashes of my camera. It can only get brighter and brighter with every flash.

Fires!!

You can see fires from my roof already! The Santa Ana's haven't even began to blow in yet!! It has been hot the past few days, it's supposed to cool down for the weekend. I hope not too much. I wanna surf!

My first attempt at food styling...

Well I had the urge to shoot this beautiful meal I made tonight.  This plate was just as good if not better eating it as this picture is gorgeous. I borrowed a recipe from Matt for his Lemon Pesto Salmon and Spaghetti and it turned out amazing! I hope you enjoy the picture as much as I did eating it!

Present for my Nephew!

I have never had a Ramones t-shirt so I am going to start my nephew off right! As his Godfather I take it into my own hands to make sure his first band t-shirt is one to remember! What better band to choose than the infamous Ramones?

Working hard.

This was a test shot at the studio today when we were dialing in the lighting. I always stand in when we are getting ready. If I ever find a nice portrait I process it and take it with me! So here is one for the day!
